This week's award goes to one of my favorites, the one and only Billy Graham. He didn't do anything this week, he just had it coming. I always suspected that he was a Jew hater, and this was confirmed for me when Newsweek published transcripts of the Nixon white house tapes a while ago. He said some very ugly things about our people to the president when he did not know he was being recorded. This comes as no surprise to me since the founder of the Protestant church, Martin Luther was a virulent Jew-hater.

I was appalled when the news of these tapes broke last year. I launched a letter off to Billy Graham and I remembered saying something like, "G-d hears your words, even when you think they are being said in private." You are right. A total anti-Semite.
JF, I really enjoy your blog and viewpoints. I'd like to blogroll you if it's ok. :)
Stacey: Thank you for the compliment. Please feel free to blogroll The Jewish Freak.
Just Yidding: The conventional wisdom in America is that Billy Graham can do no wrong. I'm glad you have been able to see through that.
PS. I see that you also have a serious side.
Freethoughtmom: I don't fit in the Jewish community where I live because of my thoughts/beleifs/questions. However, that does not keep me from being extremely proud of my Jewish heritage. Also, I have found many kindred spirits in the Jewish blogging world who make me feel much less freakish.
I checked out your blog - very good! Have you ever heard of the Happy Heretic? You remind me of her. Thank you for stopping by, I look forward to your comments in the future.
Freethoughtmom: I have an open mind and I'm just trying to figure it all out.
I had an excellent and extensive orthodox Jewish education which I am thankful for, but the orthodox Judaism I remember was not as fundamentalist as it seems today.

Forgive me for butting in on your comment to someone else. But I just wanted to say that you are definitely not a freak, JF.
I think it is good to question and, in fact, my rabbis have always encouraged this. But I grew up in the Conservative movement. I have first cousins who are ultra-frum and they look down on my sisters and myself. It is really a shame. We are all Jews.
I hope that you share more of your upbringing with us. I am curious if you were Modern Orthodox or one of the UO branches.
In any case, I think highly of you and your blog and I hope that you are able to find which path of Judaism suits you best (I don't believe one size fits all) and are able to live it.
Have a wonderful Shabbos.
Stacey: Thank you for your kind words. I have learned to embrace my "freakness" and am even thankful for it at times.
At any rate, we can't help what we believe or don't believe, we can only go where our mind tells us. It's just that some people put in more effort towards this endeavor than others.
This is a mistake that christians make that is starting to creep into our ranks - a stated belief or creed doesn't mean a thing unless you truly carry that belief in your heart. Anything else is cowardice or hypocracy. - JF
I hear you loud and clear. Your words are wise.
We come from a beautiful, meaningful religion. But there are parts of it I question and other parts I flat-out don't buy. Even so, I am proud to call myself a Jew and live a proud, active Jewish life in the way that makes sense to me.
Stay true to who you are.
I never could like Billy Graham. I am a serious Christian, but, could not understand why there just seemed that something was wrong that would not let me see Billy Graham as a great man of God. Something was very wrong somewhere. I think maybe that preaching to him is just a job to earn a living. I could not put my finger on what it was about Billy Graham, but when the news came out that he is a Jew hater, then it all became crystal clear what that something was. He doesn't seem to be real, but something about him is not right. He is a hypocrite.
Martin Luther and Billy Graham, none of them are Christian.
so please don't add that crowd and their sins to us.
Check this out:

and do read the book
Billy Graham and his friends
by Cathy Burns
he's totally demolished in that book. Not to talk about this sermon:
Why I believ Billy Graham is lost

when a man gets loved by the world and not hated something is seriously wrong with their walk.
John 15:19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
The world loves Billy Graham. The commies love that guy!!!
If Billy Graham was a Jew hater then He hated The Messiah and His Apostales. My Bible says if you say you know the Father and hate your brother, then you are a lier and the truth is not in you.
